The course
What is The Barista Method?
The Barista Method (TBM) is a hands-on barista course run by The Zariya Academy in Nazirabad, Kolkata. It has two weeks of classes, then ten one-on-one practice sessions. It ends with a test and the Zariya Elite Barista Certificate (ZEBC).
Who is The Barista Method for?
For three kinds of people: those who want to work as baristas, those who run or plan to open a café, and anyone who wants to take coffee seriously. You do not need to know everything about coffee to begin. You need the willingness to look more closely.
Do I need experience?
No. You do not need to know coffee to begin. Tell us your experience when you apply, so we can tell you how to get the most from the course.
How long is the course?
Two weeks of classes: six classes that cover five modules. After that come ten one-on-one practice sessions of one hour each. You book those sessions yourself, at your own pace.
When does the next batch start?
The next batch starts on 8 November 2026.
How many students are in a batch?
Ten at most. Small batches give every student attention.
What do the five modules cover?
Coffee Unlocked (origin, botany and processing). Barista's Palate (cupping and tasting). Brewing Mastery (manual brewing and extraction). The Espresso Code (espresso, milk and latte art). The Barista's Edge (customer skills and troubleshooting).
Will I learn latte art and milk texturing?
Yes. Module 4, The Espresso Code, covers milk texturing and latte art, along with equipment mastery and espresso variations.
Will I learn manual brewing, such as V60 and AeroPress?
Yes. Module 3, Brewing Mastery, covers V60, AeroPress and French Press, with brew ratios, water chemistry and extraction principles.
Will I learn to taste and cup coffee?
Yes. Module 2, Barista's Palate, covers cupping protocols, tasting notes, regional profiles and defect identification.
Do you teach customer service and soft skills?
Yes. Module 5, The Barista's Edge, covers customer interactions, handling stress and troubleshooting problems on the spot.
How do the one-on-one sessions work?
Each session lasts one hour. You pick a slot from the open times, then come in and practise what you need with a mentor beside you. The first ten sessions are included in the fee.
Why one-on-one sessions as well as classes?
Group classes are best for ideas. One-on-one hours are best for skill: the machine and the mentor are yours for the full hour, so every shot you pull gets feedback at once. Together they work better than classes alone.
Can I buy more one-on-one sessions?
Yes. Extra sessions cost ₹2,000 each.
Is there a test?
Yes. A test closes the course. The test fee is included in the course fee.
Is there a certificate?
Yes. You receive the Zariya Elite Barista Certificate (ZEBC), issued by The Zariya Academy.
Will the certificate help me get a job?
We cannot promise a job. ZEBC is a named, test-backed qualification you can show employers. We are working with cafés and hospitality businesses so they recognise ZEBC when they hire.
Who teaches the course?
Founder Shubham Jaiswal leads the teaching. Mentors guide the one-on-one sessions.
Where is the course held?
At The Zariya Academy in Nazirabad, Kolkata. The exact location pin reaches you on WhatsApp once your seat is confirmed.
